Home Organization Tips for the New Year

As 2018 ends and 2019 begins, feelings of nostalgia, accomplishment and recollection surface. It’s a great time to look back at all of the memories made with family and friends, as well as the personal goals you set and achieved since January of last year. It’s also the perfect opportunity for a fresh start; to find a new purpose, look forward to the future and embark on new journeys with your loved ones. With this refreshing time also comes an opportunity to get your home back in order, as upkeep may have fallen by the wayside toward the end the year.

The holiday season often creates a whirlwind of chaos, likely making your living space less orderly than you’d like. So, why not take advantage of this fresh start and get organized? But before you commit to this task, you need to be in the right mindset.

An organizing project is most successful when it is approached in a way that can be maintainable with your individual habits and lifestyle. If the system you set up is not feasible to maintain, then it won’t stick.

Once your mind is in the right place, you can get coordinated with ease. Here are a few home organization tips to consider for the new year:

  • Donate unused items. Before you start reorganizing your items, get rid of everything you haven’t used in months. These items are better off in the hands of someone who will utilize them, so instead of throwing things in the trash, take advantage of donating.
  • Start filing. Put a filing system in place. Hangable storage is great because they can add character to a space while also being fully functional. Not only will this keep your mind at ease, it’ll also make your living space look more sleek, stylish and put together.
  • Develop a regular cleaning routine. Every week, reorganize everything in your living space that’s out of place. Every other week, give each room a deep clean. Remember: It takes 21 days to develop a habit, so as long as you stay motivated and push yourself through the first month, your organization habits will stick.
